Just Another Day

That phrase can mean different things to different people. How did you read it? Did you read it with a tone of indifference, as though this day didn’t matter, that most days don’t matter?

Maybe you read it with an air of determination and resolve, because you relish a challenge and manage to keep it all in perspective. Hard work doesn’t scare you. It’s what you do. It’s just another day.

Perhaps you took umbrage at the idea that today might not be special somehow, either by it’s significance as a holiday or the idea that we should cherish every day.

Just Another Day

No matter how you read it, what is certain is that each day carries only the significance we ascribe. Either today matters to you or it doesn’t. You will either work hard, or you won’t. You will find joy in it, or simply let it slip by.

What today really is, is the opportunity to make the choices that will help you achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself. If losing 40 pounds matters, you have choices (sometimes hard choices) to make today. If you want to earn more this year than you did last year, today is the day you act on that in a very deliberate way.

Last year I chose words that helped me to approach my day and  my week. Prepare. Do. Reflect. They served me well, but they were not as forward looking as my words for this year.

For 2015, I chose words that represented something larger but fully embodied how I want to see myself and be seen by others. I chose words that serve as guide posts for what I’m moving towards, how I will get there, and why I’m doing it.

I chose words that (for me) serve as inspiration and motivation not for the future, but for today.

Because It’s Still…Just Another Day

It doesn’t matter that today is the second day of 2015, unless you decide that it does. January 3rd is less than 24 hours away and you can make that day matter, too. In fact there are 365 days in 2015 that can matter. I checked.

The only goals you will accomplish this year, are the one’s you are willing to work on today.

As you work towards a successful 2015, clarify what you need to do today and tomorrow and on June, 12th. Make a list of the actions you need to take. Make them part of your day, every day. Don’t just commit to your goals. Commit to your actions. Because after all, it’s just another day, unless it isn’t.

Here’s to a successful 2015.

I truly appreciate you being with me last year and I look forward to talking with you each week.

Above all, have a legitimate and useful purpose and devote yourself unreservedly to it because vision without execution is just hallucination.
